Abstract:
CGroups (Control Groups) is a feature initially developed to limit resource usage in the Linux kernel. Using cgroups, one can tweak the memory, bandwidth, CPU usage and so forth of processes running on system. Cgroups can also be used to deny access to system resources, and they can help monitor system resources. Its a new feature that is being enabled in several distributions, including but not limited to openSUSE, Ubuntu and Fedora. This paper tries to explore the design and usage aspects of cgroups in Linux systems.
