Especially for web applications, a short time to market is crucial. Design patterns are proven solutions to common coding problems that can help to cut development time as well as maintenance cost. This workshop introduces you to various design patterns and shows practical and elegant implementations in PHP. Among other things, we will reveal the truth about MVC, what it really is, and how it has been (ab-)used on the web. Giving you good reasons, we will also make sure that you never ever want to use a Singleton again. Of course, viable and effective alternatives will be shown. This workshop will not only help you to better understand existing PHP frameworks, but also teach you how to introduce design patterns into existing code by refactoring. We will also have a look at the lesser-known temporal patterns that help you deal with things that change over time. Many practical examples and live coding demos are featured, teaching lots of best practices and showcasing some rarely-used PHP features as we move along.
