Abstract:
Cloud is the buzz -- has been for a few years now. The idea and assorted whitepapers from the media read and look so convincing that a large number of CIOs take the plunge without properly analyzing whether it suits them or not. After all, in theory, when compared to managing traditional data centres in-house, this alternative looks really mouth watering -- fraction of the cost, no hardware, no support costs, monthly payment, pay more as you scale, et al., make the cloud seem to be an answer to all. Interestingly, many organisations (of all sizes) who took the plunge have come back to the traditional model. What are the issues? Why does it it suit some and they go all ga-ga over it, while at the same time others faced with difficulties had to come back. In this talk, the speaker will share some customer facts and discuss how to properly weigh the pros and cons before making the move...
