Open Stack Cloud in SMB Space
Session Type:
Presentation - 45 Minutes
Abstract:
OpenStack is an Open Architecture based cloud ecosystem, with an industry wide acceptance.
The OpenStack project consists of two major components: Nova, an infrastructure as a service (IaaS) suite similar to Rackspace Cloud Servers; and Swift, a blob store powering Rackspace Cloud Files. Both of these products are freely licensed under the Apache 2.0 license. This means an enterprise, or service provider, can quickly stand up a cloud offering, based on practical and real open-source software. OpenStack was conceived by the cloud team responsible for the Rackspace Cloud. The code base was seeded as a joint effort between Rackspace and NASA.
Today OpenStack is a viable alternative to be adopted by entrepreneurs and is equally lucrative in terms of ownership and experimentation by academia and enthusiasts. It has a worldwide developer community which thrashes out bugs and support issues and at the same time welcomes developers and business minds to experiment with it.
This talk will focus on:
1) Architecture of OpenStack,
2) Features and potentials,
3) A back of the RPI calculation for a business model,
4) A highlevel comparision with other popular cloud ecosystem
